Grass Roots Ministries of Miami Valley, Inc., a non-profit charitable organization, is based out of First United Methodist Church in New Carlisle, Ohio. However, our board includes a number of Christians from other churches and denominations. We have people involved in projects from as far away as North Carolina and Alabama. Orphanage Ministry
Building Project: Phase one will house approximately 40 orphans and include a orphan residence with dining hall and kitchen. Phase two will include a staff residence and church. Phase three will include a primary/secondary school and administrative office.
Orphan Adoption: For $45/month a financially adopted child will be provided with food, clothing, medicine, shelter, school supplies, and Christian supervision. We would like a one-year commitment with the option to renew adoption of the same orphan each year. You will receive a brief bio and picture of your adopted child. Contact Linda Hellinger (937-857-9702) or the church office if you are interested in financial adoption of an orphan.
Orphan Co-sponsor: For as little ast $5/month you can co-sponsor a child. Even though education is free in Tanzania, students must wear uniforms and pay for the required national test. Co-sponsors help defray the costs of education.
Medical Supply Ministry
We ship medical, dental, agricultural, school, and orphanage supplies for use at our orphanage as well as hospitals and clinics in the northern Tanzania area. Most of these supplies are donated and in excellent condition. It costs approximately $9000 to ship a forty-foot container to northern Tanzania. Currently we are suspending this mission to focus funds on the Building Project.
Medical Ministry
- Dental Mission: The first dental team arrived during June 2006 and treated over 350 patients. They plan to return on a regular basis.
- Mobile Medical / Dental Clinic: The doctors plan to have a mobile clinic in order to visit the more remote villages near Tarime.
- Prosthetic Mission: Plans are being developed to provide prosthetic devices to individuals in the Tarime area.
New Churches Ministry
In the villages near Tarime there are many Christians without a church or pastor. Many people want to know more about "these United Methodists." Currently, the pastor of the Tarime church, Gerald Boneventura, serves as a "circuit rider" to a few of these villages.
The United Methodist Women of the Tarime church have a hospital visitation ministry, which includes taking food to the patients. In Tanzania, you don't eat if you don't have family to bring you food in the hospital. Those in the TB ward are often without food.
